Full Subdomain Support

With subdomain feature, you can make subdomain like us.example.com, jp.example.com, and fr.example.com for each of your branches in US, Japan and France. Our email system is able to handle multiple subdomain. For example, you can create email accounts like joe@us.example.com, jane@jp.example.com, mike@fr.example.com, as well as john@example.com. Every email accounts you create on any subdomain can be of any type, described in the following section.

Types of Email Accounts

An email account can be one of these types of email accounts:

  • POP/IMAP account. This account will store any incoming email messages to a mailbox stored on our server. Then, in turn users can download their emails using email client software such as Microsoft Outlook Express or Eudora. You can limit the capacity of an account to prevent it from overloading your allocated disk space.
  • Email forwarder. This type of email accounts will forward any incoming mail to another email address. For example, you can forward your emails to your account with a local ISP, but you can use the address associated with your domain, not your ISP.
  • Mailing list. Mailing list consists of its members' email addresses. Any email sent to a mailing list account will be distributed to its members. Our mailing list system is fully automatic, for example a user can become a member by themselves, email bounces are handled automatically, etc.
  • Autoresponder. Autoresponder will immediate reply any incoming email with a given message. Beside that, the incoming message can be forwarded to another email address as well.
  • Email bouncer. This type of email account will simply reject any incoming email, just like when this account has not been made. For a reason why this email type is sometimes necessary, please see the default mail handler explanation below.
  • Email blackhole. This type of email account will simple discards any incoming emails.
  • Custom mail handler. An advanced user can use dynamic email processing by using custom mail handler. To use this feature, you need a working knowledge on how our email server (qmail-1.03) works.

Default Mail Handler

If your email users are located in one single location, for instance in the office or school, you can use the default mail handler feature of our email system. Using default mail handler together with a local mail server will make your email system more efficient.

Default mail handler is also known in other place as DomainPOP or catchall email address.

The default mail handler is given to each created subdomain that can receive email. With default mail handler, any email that get sent to an undefined address in the respective domain (or subdomain) will be saved in the default mailbox that is located on our server. Then your own email server in turn can download the whole mailbox and distribute the email to a local mailbox on your email server* This way, your users don't need to connect directly to our mail server, thus saving your time and bandwidth.

Maybe a near real world scenario will serve better as an example.

  • You create a mail server using MDaemon on your facility.
  • You add three users to your mail server: joe@uk.example.com, john@uk.example.com and jane@uk.example.com. You configure your mail server to deliver email to these users locally and assign them password for your users to access their mailbox on your mail server.
  • You create subdomain uk.example.com on our server and configure it to use default mail handler. You don't create the individual mailbox on our server, otherwise their email won't get sent to the default mail handler.
  • You configure your own mail server to download email from the default mail account default@uk.example.com periodically. Your mail server then will sort the incoming emails and distribute them to your users, while bouncing any emails with unknown destinations.
  • Your users in turn will be able to download their own email from your mail server.

The default mail handler will hadle all emails that the address has not been defined by you. In example above, if your add john@uk.example.com on our mail server, the email will get sent to a mailbox on our server, not the default mail handler. Additionally, this is where the email bouncer accounts come in handy. For example, whenever john@uk.example.com resigns from your company, you can assign a mail bouncer on our server, so any email that get sent to john will bounced at our mail server, and you don't need to download john's email again, saving you some bandwidth.

Web and WAP Based Email

indoglobal.com also provides a web based email service. Any POP/IMAP account created on our system can automatically be checked by using our web based email. In default, your users can check their email from http://webmail.example.com. Moreover, the web based email can be used by your users as a place for changing their email password, even if they are not using web based email.

You can also access your mailbox using a cell phone if your cell phone and operator are both supporting WAP. You can access WAP mail the same way as accessing web mail. However, when using cell phone, you will be presented with a simplified WAP interface suitable for use with most cell phones.

DNS MX Records

For you those have your own email server and need to administrate your own email server can use the MX record feature. This way, you can still have your web site and other services hosted with us but any email sent to your domain will be delivered to your own email server.

This is also required whenever you need to use third party free web based email provider. You can use MX records to deliver any email to their servers.

POP/IMAP Mailbox Features

The following are some of our unique features of our POP/IMAP mailbox accounts:

  • Spam protection. Every POP/IMAP mailbox hosted on our system features spam protection. Please see spam protection section for more information.
  • Email filter. With email filter you can classify your incoming emails into folders according to your rule. You can also choose to reject incoming email with a message or forward them to another email address if they match a rule on your filter. A rule could also be the size of incoming email, for example you can filter out any message bigger than 1 MB to a specified folder, so you won't have to download it with your POP3 client. You can define rules from within web mail. Our email filter is fully integrated with the rest of our email system, so our filter is fully functional even if you don't use webmail regularly.
  • Forwarding and vacation. With forwarding, you can forward all incoming email to another email address. With vacation, you can have our email system answer any incoming email automatically, very handy to notify email senders that you are not available to respond emails.

SMTP Authentication

We also provide SMTP authentication feature as an alternative to your ISP's SMTP server for sending emails. This feature could be used if you change ISPs frequently, so that you won't have to change SMTP server setting every time you change ISP. You can also use this feature if your ISP doesn't provide an adequate SMTP server. We provide SMTP authentication on port 8025 on your account, you can login by using the same username and password you are using for accessing POP/IMAP account.
